Thermolysis participated in the Enterprise Innovation Award selection of the 20th Taiwan National Innovation Awards with the theme "From Waste to Upcycled: The Circular Reuse and High-Value Products of Carbon Fiber". We are honored to have received recognition from the judging panel and to win this award.
The popular carbon fiber composite materials on the market are products that use resin as a base material combined with carbon fiber as a reinforcing material. They are known for their lightweight and sturdy characteristics, making them highly valued and widely applied due to the carbon reduction trend. However, materials based on thermosetting plastics, once heated and pressurized, stabilize their molecular structure, making them resistant to softening or melting. Consequently, once formed, they are difficult to decompose and recycle, leading to the current dilemma of carbon fiber products reaching the end of their service life with no viable disposal options.
Thermolysis's exclusive high-temperature pyrolysis equipment can quickly and efficiently decompose resin-based substrates to recover carbon fibers for industrial recycling and reuse purposes. The removal rate of resin from the processed recycled carbon fiber can reach over 90% while maintaining surface integrity. The high purity of the recycled carbon fibers preserves their original mechanical properties, allowing them to be reintroduced into the original manufacturing process, thus aiding the carbon fiber industry in transitioning towards a circular economy.
In addition to mass-producing recycled carbon fibers, Thermolysis has further developed high-value intermediate products of recycled carbon fibers to expand the market. Thermolysis has commissioned third-party certification organizations UL and TÜV to certify the carbon emissions of recycled materials and recycling processes. Sequentially, it has obtained UL 2809 verification of recycled content and product carbon footprint (ISO 14067) certification, providing customers with clear records of the material's processing history and low carbon emission certification.
